WHAT IS LABORATORY CASEWORK?
‘Laboratory Casework’ is a catchall term for the cabinetry, workbenches, and other furniture that is used in laboratories to store, organize, and conduct experiments. There are several types of laboratory casework available, each designed to meet specific needs and requirements.
The most common types of laboratory casework are:
Base cabinets
These are lower cabinets that are typically used to store heavy equipment and supplies. They come in a variety of sizes and configurations, including sink bases, drawer bases, and cabinets with doors.
Wall cabinets
These cabinets are mounted on the wall above the work surface to provide additional storage space. They can be used to store chemicals, glassware, and other small items.
Fume hoods
Fume hoods are specialized cabinets that are designed to protect laboratory personnel from hazardous fumes and vapors. They are typically made of stainless steel and have a ventilation system that pulls air away from the user.
Countertops
Laboratory countertops are available in a variety of materials, including epoxy resin, phenolic resin, and stainless steel. They are designed to withstand the harsh chemicals and heavy use that is typical in laboratory settings.
Mobile carts
Mobile carts are used to transport equipment and supplies throughout the laboratory. They can be used to move heavy equipment or to store supplies when not in use.
Workbenches
Workbenches are used to provide a sturdy surface for laboratory work. They are available in a variety of materials and configurations, including adjustable height workbenches, static workbenches, and corner workbenches.
Specialty cabinets
There are a variety of specialty cabinets available for laboratory settings, including acid storage cabinets, flammable storage cabinets, and microscope cabinets. These cabinets are designed to store specific types of equipment or hazardous materials.
The correct casework is an important consideration for any thoughtfully designed workspace – laboratory or otherwise. It is also the reason the sales engineers at Dyna-Tech Life-Sciences get up in the morning.
